Here I am again....after a long absence.
Too late at night...too tired to blog,
but I think I need to start keeping it up,
pay attention. It turned into spam city
while I was gone.

Besides, I need a place to spew,
so this is probably better
than the stupid A&A forum where
too many people are lost in fluff clouds of
holy smoke! Judging and judging and
making superior while proselytizing
with self-righteous abandon.

Seems I have no choice but to add some entries to my blog.
It's been MONTHS!!!!

This whole computer thing, hardware, caches, programs, updates,
cyberspace, etc., is so confusing and complex I just get lost and
frustrated. It's NOT an artist's tool, that's for sure. Oh yeah, it
could be a wonderful artist's tool if I could just stay in a linear
thinking mode for more than 3 minutes! I could easily spend ALL
my time on the computer while NEVER doing any art again.....

and that's just to keep it running and maintained so I can manage
my business.

WHAT business, you say? I ask myself the same question. Must
be computer programming, because it doesn't seem to be art. Who
has time for art when one spends all one's time attempting to navigate,
manage, and maintain the blinkin computer?!?!!!

Independent Artists Create ‘Bids-4-Kids’ on eBay
to Benefit ‘Hole in the Wall’ Camps
Hundreds of Self-Representing Artists Selling Works to Help Children
with Serious Illnesses and Life Threatening Conditions at ‘Hole in the Wall’ Camps

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – July 5, 2005 – Art often imitates life. This summer, however, hundreds of self-representing artists from across the United States and Canada will use art to help enhance the lives of hundreds of children suffering from life-threatening illnesses.

From July 15-25, 2005, artists with original works listed within eBay’s Art Category (http://art.ebay.com/) will join together and participate in an effort called Bids-4-Kids to benefit the Hole in the Wall Camps (HITWC). HITWC are year-round Camps for children with serious illnesses and life-threatening conditions. Each time a participating artist sells a piece during the benefit, proceeds from the sale – ranging from 10 to 100 percent – will be donated to HITWC’s art programs.

Bids-4-Kids was conceived by a group of established eBay artists who wanted to showcase original art on eBay, while contributing to a charitable cause. Because many artists who sell works on eBay have close ties with children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, interest in participating in this grassroots fundraising effort was immediate and immense. Within 48 hours of the program’s announcement through message board posts, nearly 250 artists joined the effort. Today, more than 500 have volunteered to participate in the benefit.

“Participating in this charity auction is a fabulous opportunity to meet new friends, share my art and help bring joy to the lives of these children,” said Marge Litvinskas, Committee for Bids-4-Kids member.

Paul Newman founded the first Hole in the Wall Camp in Ashford, Conn., in 1988. To date, nearly 100,000 children worldwide have attended Hole in the Wall Camps and programs free of charge in California, Connecticut, New York, Florida, France, England, North Carolina, Ireland, Israel (opening in 2006), and programs in Africa, and Thailand. With a mission to provide a community that fosters camaraderie, joy and a renewed sense of being for children with serious illnesses, HITWC provide magical camp experiences for children with conditions such as cancer, hemophilia, Crohn’s & Colitis, sickle cell anemia and HIV/AIDS. Each camp has a state-of-the-art medical facility that allows children to “kick back, relax, raise a little hell and just be kids,” to quote Newman, without compromising any of their medical needs. In addition to arts and crafts, children at HITWC participate in swimming, horseback riding, ropes courses, theater and outdoor camping.

“This grassroots effort is an incredible display of generosity. We’re fortunate to welcome new supporters to our Camp family,” said Stocky Clark, Executive Director of HITWC.

The self-representing art community is a fast growing segment within eBay’s Art category, and is considered one of the largest and most diverse in the United States. Thousands of artists list and sell original artwork on the eBay site, where more than 460 independent works are sold each day. eBay will also be making donations to the HITWC benefit through eBay Giving Works (http://givingworks.ebay.com/), the dedicated program for charity listings on eBay. For each artist who donates 100 percent of their final sale price on a successful listing to the HITWC, eBay will donate the Insertion and Final Value fees associated with that listing to the charity selected by the seller. Well, look how naughty I've been!
Here it is almost tax time and I've
not blogged for a couple of weeks.

Maybe it's because I was doing my
blinkin taxes! Full time job for a week!
The rest of the time it's been Puter City
reorganizing art work, documenting and
prepping ACEO's for their premiere......

LORDY, I'm sure it WILL happen,
I dare NOT stipulate a target date,
because what do I know of TIME?
It's obvious I am its slave rather than master.

Anyway, during this bloggosabbatical I've
been making ACEO's, recording Loose Shoes' CD,
and playing the Main Site Art Gallery in Norman,
with TWO encores!!!!!

Here is another series of ACEOs.
These are ink and acrylic on paper
or sheet vinyl.

The sheet vinyl is a marvelous
surface to work....it's slick and the
color sits right on top rather than being
absorbed, thus causing it to really glow.
It's also extremely flexible.

Acrylic adheres very well to this
surface, although it can be scratched
with some effort or carelessness.

FINALLY, I have something to list
on eBay and I hope to do so next week!!!

a glorious house by the state capitol and totally
renovated it with historical integrity.

was given to Casey by Basile Kolliopolis. It's

Loose Shoes Recording Session

Sunday, February 27 Loose Shoes did some
recording at Casey Friedman's Inner State Studio
in downtown Oklahoma City.

We're working really hard to finish up our first
CD and will be ready to celebrate when it's done!
Larry Hollis of Rainbow Records told Lanny
it's taking us longer to finish than Led Zepplin
did on their last album.

Well, what can we say? We're slow but steady.

These are some pictures of us, LOOSE SHOES,
Joe, Lanny, Alejandro, and Linda (La Pootinella),
at our recording session at Inner State.

The Painter

Life is short...Art is long.
To live within art is like a song.
To paint the sun, the trees, the moon...
to mix from colors all too soon
your heart is free, your hands can see, but
harsh environs block the sea
of fresh green breezes and crimson skies,
that wind up mountains of black mean lies,
and fly into distant worlds
of sinking patterns of crisp unfurled shredded velvet...
with ancient pearls on sleeves of hopeful lineage.

The time once was……it once was fine to sprinkle
brushstrokes like aged wine on dreams of cerulean
entwined with streaks of scumbled alizirin.

And then a vortex of tender broke emblazoned
with flames of cadmium smoke writhing up chimneys
and forcing to choke the heart from its colorful chimes,
leaving the charred burning embers of
inspirited cries wafting the air,
burning up time.

In spite of those lies from deepest of chambers
held captive through eyes...the essence of sight...
the painter arises in blackness of night
splattering the void reckless brushstrokes alight.
Ah, the eyes still see, the painter shines bright.

Newspaper Article Black Heritage Celebration

When I saw this headline I was taken aback!
I'm MORE than a LITTLE embarrassed at this
headline! It misses the whole point of my message.
My message is that I wish to honor musicians,
especially women who had a double whammy in
the prejudice department, who created the form
which provides the skeletal structure of most
American music.....African Americans.

I'm HONORED to be participating in this exhbit,
especially as a white person representing historical
aspects of African American experience.

What an honor to have someone SEE that I indeed
do have a connection to these women despite my color.
Antoinette Roach, the creator of this event has been
collecting my art for several years. She can see this
connection in my art and I feel very flattered.

Thank you, Antoinette!

Women of the Classic Blues created the most
sublime and exquisite music through the pain that
sliced through to their very beings, merely for
being born into their circumstances. I want to pay
homage to their sacrifices, the sacrifices that catalyzed
some of the greatest music ever created in the world.

Featured artist a little embarrassed by her race.
One of two featured artists at this week's Black Heritage Celebration
in downtown Oklahoma City is slightly embarrassed that she isn't,
well, black.

Linda Christy's acrylic paintings of black women singing the blues
are on display in a showcase at the seventh annual celebration that
concludes today in the Atrium of Leadership Square, 211 N. Robinson.

The other featured artist, Mary Ann Moore, describes her heritage
as multiethnic, including African, American Indian, European, and
East Indian.

Christy's ethnicity is less complicated. She is white.

"I feel a little strange about it," Christy said. "I can see why the art
is there, but being a white artist representing Black Heritage Month
is interesting."

Antoinette Roach, organizer of the Black Heritage Celebration,
said she's never selected a white artist before, but she believes
Christy was an appropriate choice.

"Her thing is about bridging the gap," Roach said. "You don't have
to be black, but you can just get into the music and art."

"Artists should be free to explore any subject without being
pigeon-holed by race or ethnicity," said Cynthia Roach, Antoinette's
sister and a feature artist in the festival's first year.

"I just do what I like to do regardless if it's black art or
just art," said Roach, who is selling her own paintings from
a booth in the kiosk area this year.

Christy, who also sings with a band, said she painted the
24-inch wood cut-outs of blues divas Bessie Smith, Lil
Hardin Armstrong, and Ma Rainey because they inspired
her musically.

She added Earnestine Allen after finding her photo in a
book.

"She was just visually striking to me. I did this piece way
before I knew much about her," Christy said.

The fifth painting in the group is of a generic gospel singer.

"I don't even know who she is. But the gospel singer is kind
of an archetype in the struggle between good and evil in
the blues and gospel," Christy said.

The paintings and her own singing are an homage to the
black musicians who invented the blues, not an attempt to
appropriate the form, she said.

"There are black people who feel a little possessive of their
creativity, and they have every right to because of the
profound contribution they've made. It's always being
copied. Our entire popular culture is based on that,"
Christy said.

Antoinette Roach said some people who have seen the paintings
are surprised to learn the artist's race.

"I've heard people say, 'She's white? Well, she must got
some sister in her,' Roach said, laughing.

La Pootinella's Black Heritage Celebration exhibit,
Leadership Square in downtown Oklahoma City.

What an honor to be able to participate in this
joyously textured and colorful event! I'm the
first white person to present my work at this
7th annual celebration.

This is my ARTIST's STATEMENT:

“SOULFUL DRESS”

The GODDESS is expression of the spirit/divine in female form.
She is powerful beyond measure and radiates the essence
of nature and nurture in the most holistic of fashions.

DIVAS of roots and earth sing the heavens
in counterpoint from dark to light.
Their pain is transformed into exquisite song
that laid the river of roses and thorns for their progeny.

These gorgeous women are plucked from images of time elapsed.
Acrylic/Mixed Media on wood 23 – 24”

Bessie Smith, "Empress of the Blues", was such
a phenomenally large spirit that she
continues to live as a powerful icon of Classic Blues.

Lil Hardin Armstrong, unduly overshadowed
wife of Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong,
played "STRIDE piano" with the band.
Her syncopation was part of the whole,
and not merely a decoration.

Ernestine "Annisteen" Allen's vocals resonated
from the depths of all time and thunder.

Ma Rainey was the queen Diva who would take
the sore and dispirited under her wing with a sweep of her "Fan".

The "gospel" singer catalyzed the music with
the truth of divine spirit that permeates
the tones and rhythms and heart.

There are dancers and singers and players,
enrobed in "Soulful Dress", who bring to life
the music of the spheres, in all its polymorphous,
ever-shape-shifting glory!
Women of the "Classic Blues", and its offshoots,
are true goddesses in their contributions to the
transformative part of the human spirit.
